well i dont know what dexcool is but i do know that when theres water on metal it will rust. if your heads are cast iron, you will see some rust in there. im not sure if it would be caked up but i have found chunked up antifreeze in my old 305 heads. i just chipped it up and cleaned it.

Dexcool is what newer GM Cars use (Ever seen red Antifreeze? thats it)and ya I have iron heads so your probably right it is rust I'll probably go get it power flushed and pray it doesnt blow up the radiator or something thanks to the rust

Actually, Dexcool is orange.
It's not so unusual to find a small sludge mine when you open up the engine. Chances are pretty good that your engine's cooling system hasn'tbeen flushed, or back-flushed very often...or maybe not at all???
Flushing the system and changing the coolant regularly will help avoid getting a build up like that. But how many car owners are actually that religious about changing their coolant? A small percentage I'm sure. It's kind of a forgotten "ain't broke, don't fix it" maintenance.

Not a dumb question, but nope, neither. The only time I miss power steering is when parallel parking. ButI don't parallel park very often as it is. I eventually want to convert it to rack & pinion anyway. And the car stops just fine using"the harder you push the faster it stops" method.

Dont sweat it. Do a flush if you can. Most older cars have this kind of build up. Nothing to worry over.

Hmm Ya I will, I still have to go get new intake manifold gaskets (I cant believe it wants me to use stock GM gaskets! I cant use Felpro or Mr. gasket it seems) Aw well, Paint the EGR Crome, clean all the old line fittings and get a new water neck, coolant temp, thermostat then plop on my custom TBI I made!
