Go buy a diagnostic computer and plug it into the port under the drivers side of the dash--they arent that expensive and it will tell you what the computer is seeing. It might not be anything you can fix though because of the fact that a 5.7 litre has different specs than a 5.0--the computer assumes nothing has changed.

They sell those "diagnostic computers" designed for your car at any office supply store.
It's called a paper clip. Do a search here, it tells you how to check service codes on your OBDI system.

well, if youre hard on money, then there is a good reason to invest in a paper clip and some time reading. if the check engine light is on then its probably something causing fuel mileage to drop and it could be a simple repair that will save you money in both the short and long run. dont wait until it becomes a big problem, especially since your hours have been reduced

Use. A. paperclip.
Seriously.. Do some reading here and there are posts here, as well as articles on other third gen sites that describe how to do code readings with a paperclip.
You know, the thing you buy a box of 100 from staples for like 50 cents? :P
This isn't to say having a tool that reads the exact values isn't good or useful, it's very useful... Just everything I've done so far has been with a paper clip and it's been all I needed. :P

Bwaahaaaa, I think I may have confused you when I referred to a paper clip as a "diagnostic computer". A paper clip is all these models need to flash on your check engine light codes.
It looks like this...but use the bare metal kind, not the coated color ones.
