car wont start, any ideas?
hello, i have a 1991 camaro RS 5.0. A few days ago, my car suddenly would not turn on, after driving it for a little bit. i turn the key to on, and the lights turn on, so its not a battery issue. once i turn my car to start, nothing. starter makes no noise, no sound at all. nothing. Any ideas of what this could be? checked all of the fuses and all are fine. any ideas would be great thanks!

Security light on?

No, no security light.

Check the battery with a volt meter to double check you have 12+ volts. If you do, then begin checking the starter wiring, fusible links, etc.

Yeah its fully charged, 13 volts, I don't believe that the starter is getting power, where are the links located in the engine compartment? I saw two that look like them, in the back right. Thanks

Check for 12 Volt at the the solenoid control wire (small purple wire) when the key is turned to Start. If no voltage check the starter enable/security relay, it should switch when the key is turned to Start. Make sure there is 12 Volt at the battery connection at the starter end (hot at all times). Also meke sure the ground cable makes good contact at both ends, give it the wiggle and twist test.
If you are brave, short out the large battery terminal to the solenoid control terminal using a large screw driver. Make sure it makes good contact, you don't want to make too many sparks. If the starter and the solenoid are good, the solenoid will close the internal contacts, send power to the stater, and the starter will crank the engine |
