the cam you buy has to do with what year motor it is. what type of intake you have does not matter. you are saying you have a mechanicle lifters, then you have to look at a mechanicle lift cam. i would recomend JEGS part number 249-12-609-5. its a crane cams mechanicle lift cam, with an intake duration of 250, and an exhaust duration of 260, with a power band of 3000-6500rpms. it costs 154.99 plus s and h. it is alsmo smart that you buy new lifters when buying a new cam. Jegs part number 638-70992. these all cost 89.00 plus shipping and handling.

I beleave most tpi motors were the roller lifter type depending on the year for the block.the only real way of knowing if you have a roller lifter or mechanicl is to pull the intake and look in the lifter valley. If the exhaust and intake lifters are joined by a bar or there is a steel plate bolted down the center of the block in the valley good chance there roller. If the lifters ar just sitting there they are mechanical.either way crane cams and slp or both make good cams.accoding to your engine combo

Another Thing To Think About Is ... Most People You Talk To Recommend Changing Lifters With A New Cam. Comp Cams Have Alot Of Different Kits That Include Shaft, Springs, And Lifters For Around $250. I Went With A Speed Pro Cam On My Build. Not As Costly As Some But, Still A Pretty Decent Cam For The Dollar. I Believe Speed Pro Is A Marketing Name For Federal Mogul But I'm Not Gonna Swear To It. Nevertheless If I Was Looking For The Best Bang For The Buck I Would Definately Choose Roller Lifters For A New Cam. Sick

Just To Get Some Prices Go To Ebay And Search For Chevy Camshaft Kits. Take A Look At The Ones That Say Buy It Now. That Will Give You A General Idea Of Some Prices From Different Manufactors. I Bought Every Part For My Last Build From Ebay. Never Left My Easy Chair. Just Becareful Who You Buy From. Sick
