you guys would be suprised to see how many things can be done to a small block, i was talking about boring out my block bigger and he gave me the different bore sizes and what it would account for, i didn't even know it was possible to make a small block into a 396, but thats just not really on my budget right now.

 

Thats right with stoke. With that stroke you can get 420 our of a 400 SB. But by just using stock production parts your not going to be able to bore out a 350 for it. I don't give a **** what some dumb *** machinist says. You want to learn the truth on small blocks pick up one of John Lingenfelter's books.

hold on, wait a second, i don't remember saying anything about using stock parts for it, its an obvious fact that your going to have to change all of the internals in order to accomodate that, if i did say something like that i one of the last posts, i apoligize for giving wrong facts.

You never said anything about stroke.
Also when you go with a longer stroke from an aftermarket crank you have a chance of running into clearance issues and need to clearance the block and posibly the pan.

350rs, i hope i was help with you figuring things out the right way of boring a small block to a 396, now that i know all of the parts that i'll need, and where i can get them i might do that, keep me posted on the progress and let me know how it goes for you.

camaro, i would still like a 396. ill talk to a few shops around here to see if they have any thoughts about it. Ill prolly just have to go with a 383 or something.

Mike, not sayin your dumb here, i am the student after all. But i do have a question for you. Why cant you make a 396 SB without siameseing the cylinders when you can get a 400 sb?
