why do you wanna pull out the 5spd? 5spds are good incentives for people to want to buy your car when you go to sell it. everyone and their brother has an auto, manuals are the only way to go in a muscle car.but 700r4 is a good tranny, great low end power and decent hwy gas mileage. i wouldn't go with anything bigger in a 355 in the rear end tho...

hey ya he has a good point its not worth the truble a 700r4 is relly not a good trans i dont care what any one says if you want to go automatic go with a 350 turbo i took the 5sp out of my 83 and put in a good old 350 all you will need is a 350 turbo with an intermediate tail shaft to meet your drive line you will also have to have the torq arm mount kit they sell it in summit and a crossmeber from an automatic car one from a 700r will work its not that hard of a job the drivers side ear of the tranny will have to be just grinded a lil to clear the tunnel no biggi but if you are set on having that 700r for the over drive the same things apli just get a 700r and order the torq arm mount kit get a crossmeber but i dont know what tail shaft you will need to meet your drive line so maybe have to do some measering hope that helps ya some

If you can get all the parts from another 3rd gen donor then it'll be easy. As Purpl mentioned there are alot of them around so you might checkthe wrecking yards in your area. Just don't forget to set the TV cable and connect up the TCC lock-up.

LOL where are you located? The deal here is im putting this together for my wife... She can drive a stick but had shoulder surgery and cant really drive one all that well any longer.....

I was thinking 700r4 because of the Overdrive..... and keep the mileage as close to the 5 speed as possible.....

its just the v-6 anyway....

Since you mentioned yours is a v6, make sure the 700r4 is also from a v6. The bellhousing pattern is different.
