Air Filter?
Im new to Camaros and all that so this question will probly sound dumb to most of you out there but, right now I have a stock air filter setup on my 305 and it just kinda looks boring. So, I was wondering if It would cause the engine to overheat, or somthing like, that if I were to put one of those cheap open air filters on it from AutoZone. I think it makes the engine look a lot cooler but I don't wanna do it if it will cause my engine problems. Thanks.
It wont cause engine problems but it also wont fit under a stock hood. That is assumeing you are refering to a TBI or Carbed air cleaner. You can get a K&N top that is open but that just puts it close to the dirt that collects in the under hood insulation.
not sure if this is wat your refuring to or not but i also have a 305 tbi and i just put a holley open airfilter on mine ...... http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...tegoryId=10269 ...... its 14" x 3" and mine fits great and it did help a little bit with gas i believe not sure cause after all it is a camaro and i havent really checked for sure if it has but it kinda seems like it but once again i dont know if this is wat you are talking about for air filter but this one does fit and its only about 30 bucks
also another thing when you put that on and you take your stock air cleaner off it will have a electric sensor not sure wat it is exactly called but when you put the new one on the service engine light will turn on unless you hook this sensor back up to the new filter you will see it when you take the stock one off you have to drill a hole into the new air cleaner on the bottom and re install it into the new one just so you know hope this helps
Very good Mike. I had an Edelbrock intake on my 84 carbed and it raised the air cleaner about 1/4 inch which made it rub the hood. I put a cowl hood on then I could put the Edelbrock triangle filter on. Did you leave the spacer with the hose on it on your TBI? Is that air cleaner flat with the hole in it or does the bottom curve up into the element so it sits low?
There is a part that sits on top of the throttle body, a ring, and sometimes if your not careful it will catch the injector wires under it and they get pinched.
I may have made a mistake about the hose. Pick ups' have that. But there is a spacer. without it the injectores stick up to high to put the air cleaner lid on.
