92 gauge cluster

i'm looking at buying a 86 z28, I used to own a 92 rs. In my opionon the gauge cluster in the 91 and 92 is alot nicer than the ones in the 86. does anyone know how hard it would be, if even possible, to put a 92 gauge cluster in a 86?

For one the 86 has mechancial speedo and the 92 is elecctric. Unless you don't care about the speedometer go ahead it will fit.

You can get a unit that sends an digital signal to the speedo and it screws onto the tranny where the cable is. But what is wrong with the cluster I had in my 84? You can not fit it into a 90-92.

The panel is from Covan's classics. (don't be fooled, its abs plastic) The gauges I had purchased from Summitracing.com (you can get the whole panel with gauges. I just had the gauges for years before) I had put in two small green LEDs for signal indicators and the yellow light was my check engine light I mounted under the center vents. I also had to get a custom made two piece speedo cable and a hall effect untit because on the back of the OEM cluster there is a VSS.

So just a re-cap.

Will a guage cluster from a 90-92 fit into the panel of say an 86. I have a new one with 0 miles on it that is the 145 MPH speedo. The originalin the car nowis acting up so I thought about installing the newer one.

I too like the newer gage faces.

I'm good with having to change the speed sensor or what ever else so long as its not a real big pain.

My buddy has a choo choo conversion El Camino & his speedo is a 220 MPH from what I belive is out of a Covette.
Is that doable also?

The dash in the 90-92 was all reshaped. Even the pad is different. The clusters may fit into the hole but the trim bezels will not match up correctly and may look dorky. Is the 145mphgauge cluster you have for a 90-92? If so and you ever want to sell it let me know.

They are the later model gage set. If I can figure out how to get a photo of them in here I'll post it.

I guess since it would look dorky ( who wants that) I may do something like the gage set in the earlier post.
