Default Possibly buying a Camaro RS setup for a carbed 350... Have a few questions.

Hey all im new on this forum. But I am looking at a 91 Rolling Camaro RS that has already been swapped to a 350 previously, but the own blew the trans so the car is just being sold as a roller. The car comes with a Posi 410 rear end. But the car has been previously setup for a carbed motor. He told me that any 350 would work for the swap. Is this true? I know if i went fuel injected i would need a whole new computer, wiring harness, and all those goodies. Is it worth the trouble of getting all of that together to go fuel injected? Also i dont have a very big budget... But the car has the right price and i found some decently cheap 350`s. Its just i dont know if i could really use any 350 i wanted and i dont want to jump into buying a motor that wont work.... Any advice? Also the car originally was equipped with a 305 then later swapped for a 350.

thanks,
Eric

My opinion is you are looking at a big money pit. A car set up for a carb 350 could mean a lot of things and the first one is he cut the wiring to everythng. So beware.

Well that depends on what kind of shape it is in. I have a 91 rs that has been swapped over to a carb setup - but I didn't cut any wiring. I just taped everything back and unplugged the computer and put it up. Some people are better than others at stuff like that. As for the motor, you can use basically any 350. Since you are on a tight budget, it would probably be better for you to stay with a carb than to try to go back to fuel injection. Do you live in a place where you have to pass inspection?

I live in Michigan so no emission laws that i really need to follow and honestly i dont care if there even are. I dont have to pass a emissions inspection atleast.

The cars harness is all intact and everything is setup on the harness for a carbed motor. I asked him if i would need to find a harness he said only if im going for fuel injected because it comes with the carbed harness.

if it's already set up for running a carb, run a carb. it will save you quite a lot of money over trying to go to FI.

and anyways, if you really want more power, you can always punch the 350 out to a 355, 377, 383, and so on. all depends on what you want to do.

Or you could get a 400. I would not mess with going to fuel injection personally. Sounds like things could get really complicated to figure out connections, end types, wiring diagrams etc.

seriously alot less headaches with carbs. not alot of money needed either since FI is basicly everything needed for carb but on steriods. u can use from 305 all the way to a 400. tuning is alot eaiser with carb also. and alot more cleanier. check my fotos it also look alot nicer when u pop the hood for friends.

To get more power out of fuel injection, you will have to spend alot more money than in a carb. Fuel Injection setups are expensive!

One thing to think about...Make sure you get a good carb if you go that route because you live in Michigan and it gets cold there. Carbs are normally harder to crank in the winter time.
