'87 RS Camaro... Questions/Opinions wanted.
Hi, my friend is selling his old 87 camaro. It has a new 2.8L with 3X,000 miles on it. Also, a new tranny (not sure on miles), a new paint job, and new interior. I'm not sure if the intake is stock. It also has a cam installed and he'll throw in another set of black wheels. It is very clean looking. Here's some pics.
Now onto questions: What kind of mileage can i expect from the 2.8? Also, if taken care of, is this a long lasting motor? Any things I should look out for on these model years? And finally, he's asking $3500, but I'll think i'll give him $3k max. What do you guys think?

Why such low mileage, and a transmission rebuild with such low mileage?
I personally think $3,500 is a little bit on the pricey side for a 2.8L model. If it doesn't need any bodywork, it may be worth it though, especially if you plan on pulling the 2.8L. Bodywork can get expensive.

I checked it out good today... and well, Im not getting it. The thing cant even idle right...it stalls. What they did is: bored out the cylinders, put a bigger cam, and bigger valves. Im pretty sure they had no idea how this would affect the computer so thats why its all crappy running. Im not wasting my time or money on trying to get a custom burned chip. Oh well, theres tons more cars out there.

Best to stay away from it. They screwed it up and want someone else to take their problems off their hands.
By the way, cars like this are ultimately fine project cars for somebody. Body and otherwise apparently well cared for (the pictures looked good), when you want a project car you wait and buy a car like this cheap - I'd bid $500 to $800 (assume they are worthless), then pull the motor and trans and just toss them, drop in a crate motor (a V8 would be the usual course but I might try something difference like the 4.3 V6)and do a little work and have a super car qhwn you are done.
I don't suggest you try that, though. Find another car. There are a lot out there.
