1987 IROC Z28 convertible question..????
[hr]
i am looking at an 87 camaro convertible that is supposed to be an iroc z28...
the problem that i see with the car is that it has rear drum brakes and a 305 carb. motor. it is not a tpi motor. the car does have z28 hood, wheels and body... the dash has a 20th anniversary badge..
is it still possible for this car to be a z28 iroc convt without 4 wheel discs and a tpi engine?
thanks alot!

If the car is an 87 with a 20th Anniversary badge, you need to grab it as quickly as possible!!!!!!! That's if it's a Z28...
That car could be worth MAJOR CASH!! Look in the center consolefor the RPO code B4Z, if it lacks this code you need to ****** this car ASAP!

Standard engine was the LG4 (carb) and standard were drum rear brakes. Just over a 1000 coveritbles were built by ASC and it came in three different models with the IROC-Z28 the top of the line. 20th anniversary were put on them but I can not say if it was all the convertibles. So check the RPO codes under the lid for center console..

it does have the 20th anniversary badge on the dash.. italso DOEShave the b4z on the rpo codes.. is this good or bad?? according to the codes, it is infact an iroc z28.. BUT, LIKE I SAID, it has a 305 carb motor..
by major cash you mean what? it has 123000 miles on it and is in decent shape..

They are rare. However if you had found a Z28 20th Anniversary Vert - they sell for over $20,000 restored.
Pick that car up anyway. Hopefully the rear quarters/deck lid/spoiler are intact as they are very hard parts to find & if they are found they are EXTREMELY expensive.
Also any convertible top parts are very hard to find, along with the plastic panels in the back seat. Some companies have recently started reproducing these parts, but they are outrageously expensive. The best source for convertible parts would be Top-Down Solutions.

if its the base z28 conv., i could see it having a carb and drum brakes. many z's did, not every one was 4 wheel disc and tpi (although it should have). its possible it may have been rebadged a z28, or someone swapped the hood. my car isa z28, but the hood was swapped for one with the louvers on it.

In the eighties and earlier their were two things you had to know when buying a new car. Standard equipment (no extra cost) and Optional equipment ( made the sticker price add up real fast).
No such thing as everything on the cars like today.
Examples of cost of options on that IROC-Z conv. ($16,832)Base and some options:
350TPI....$1045
IROC package...$2975
Rear Disc....$179
Limited slip.....$80
Automatic (required)....$490
And etc $$$$$
Now you are talking about a car that lists for over $22,000
Which was a lot of money for a car in 1987. I know because I paid about $16 K for my IROC-z coupe in 1987..
