83 Idling High
Hello, my 83 idles to the red line at start up occasionally. Not all the time but I don't want to blow the engine on start-up -_- Any ideas? the carb was restricting gas flow and now it's okay however the car still idles high at start up every now and then. Thanks!

To rev the motor to red line the throttle plates would have to be open. Sound like the linkage is messed up or you are hitting the throttle to start it and it is sticking.
How fast is your normal idle when it not red lineing?
Reving a cold motor can cause a lot of different internal damage to the motor. It can cause premature wear on just about every part, it can snap your timing chain and a ton of other things. When you ge that condition shut it down and try again until you get this figured out.

My normal idle is around 1500/1800, when it goes high I shut it off and wait a bit. I do NOT touch the gas at start up. Clutch and Brake down, turn it, take it out of gear to N, and let the clutch up so I don't burn the F'n thing out lol I thought that the pedal might have been sticking but I don't think it has been.

Since the idle comes down after the engine warms up, it looks like your fast idle adjustment on your choke linkage (passenger side of carb) is set too high. What kind of carb do you have?

Read the service manual on your carb for making the proper adjustments.
Your car originally had a Quadrajet: http://www.bdub.net/manuals/Quadraje...anual_1981.pdf
But if it was replaced with an Edelbrock: http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...ers_manual.pdf
