i dont know that this will or will not work, so im gona ask. I was in the junkyard today picken up a front disc setup for our 68 pickup. So i went over when we were done and checked out the f-body stash. there was a 94 z28 there that bit it pretty hard on the side.The whole rear brake setup was still on it however. Complete. I looked at the mounts and they are different but heres my question..


if i were to take the mount for the caliper and bolt it onto my current setup ( 10 bolt with drum brakes) mark the other two holes on the top, drill and tap them. would it work if i cut the extra off with a sawzall or something? the guy only wants 50 bucks for all of it and it looks to be in good shape. So if i can im gona take it. And i suppose i would need the prop valve too... but theres another interesting problem... would i take the one off the rear end or the one under the master cylinder? anyway, just a thought of mine that probably wont work, but im gona ask anyway.

also, ive got the 16" iroc wheels that im going to use now instead of the 15" regular wheels. if that makes any difference.

 

The one on the rear is not a valve its just a T block to connect all three lines together so you would need the valve under the master. Make sure though that it has the same line configuration as yours.
As for directly bolting it up I don't know. There may be soem modification to the flange or tube end. But for $50 I would grab it! Don't let it slip away.

 

see thats what im thinking. if i were to use the mount as a guide for the holes to be drilled, i could drill, tap, and cut off the extra. but before i did that i wanted to make sure.

and ill snag the prop valve from under the master cylinder, but will it work for the front brakes too? or should i try and snag them as well? are they even any better than whats on there now?

 

unless i hear otherwise, i think im gona go up and snag them wednesday or tomorrow if im off work ( if it rains im off, but that means lots of work in the rain..) anyway, ill let yall know how it comes out! hes only wanted 150 for the whole rear end... anybody know what gear could be in it? it might be worth the time to get 4th gen wheels and setup the front end to work with them as well.

ok i just mesured the inside diameter of the wheel at the "hub". its 14.75" across. i measured that brake setup yesterday at 13.5 i believe.( roter and caliper) so its REALLY close, how much clearance do you want between wheel and caliper?? i think this will be too tight. but if its not im gona at least give it a go.

 

Have you seen how close some of the big disc brakes are inside wheels? Some times they are so close they can rip the sticky weights from balancing off. If the wheel does not touch the caliper when its bolted on its fine.
