350
I have a 1988 camaro...now I'm not HUGE on cars but i know enough to hold a conversation about them, what i was curious of was what all would I need to do to a 350 to get some simple power without breaking the bank?

quick simple power? headers and full exhaust is a great start. The rest depends on your intake really. Theres the standard CAI, "high flow" filters ( wont notice a difference..) Possibly take it somewhere for a tune. Speaking of, give it a good tuneup if you havent already.

Maybe do nothing with the engine and just change the rear end gears.
Lower gears (higher numerical) will add real punch off the line,if you drive mostly in the city it's probably the biggest bang for your buck but you'll loose top end speed and gas mileage on the freeway.

Sounds pretty good, I'm tryin to get ideas I'm getting it as a graduation present. My original plans for it was to stroke it up to 383 am change the heads, right now I have it alllllll stock piece of **** v6 in it now it burns oil leaks gas and has an exhaust leak...that's another reason for a new motor. The guy before me put an exhaust on it I think it's a flowmaster but I'm not really sure any distinctive way to tell?

flowmaster is stamped in the metal.
Unless you have some kind of attachment in the car itself, get rid of that and get a car with a v8 already. its a good amount of work and time to make it work right. At LEAST get a donor V8 car to get the parts from. Major parts include k-member ( motor mounts are all that need changed) and the tranny.
