Default 327 or 350

first off does anyone on here have a 327 swapped 3rd gen?? and how do you like it?

i have a kinda built 350 in my bird finally found out it came out of a 1980's van or bus, is it worth keeping and building more? and i also have to rebuild my tranny like now because its goin out.sooo yeah...

or

my neighbors have a built 327 with a powerglide 2 speed trans with a 3500 stall, they say it makes about 450 hp?? is that believable? and i can get the motor and trans for about 1200...do you think i should do this instead?

Should you go with the 327? Hmmmm...lemme think about it for a while.....YES!
"Back in the day", the 327 was available in 350 h.p. trim in the Vette. So 450 is achievable with better modern heads, etc. You might want to ask them what was done to get to 450, so that you can know how streetable, or not, it is. The nice thing about the 327 is it has a shorter stroke than a 350, and you can wind the **** out of it. $1200 is cheap enough without the trans if it's still a good running engine. I wouldn't do anything with the powerslide slushbox except sell it.

Powerglide, Turbo 350, 700R4, all use different torque converters.

Powerglide first gear will make the car doggier off the line.
It has a 1.82 first gear as compared to the T350's 2.52, or the 700R4's 3.06.

Power glides are great for high HP drag applications. Terrible for DD's though. As Camaro 69 said, it'll be a dog off the line, and you will have very little driveablility from it.

327's are great motors however. They're great if you want a quick, high revving engine.

True, but I was sticking with a carbureted engine. I kinda figured him building a vintage FI 327 wasn't part of the plan.
