Default 1992 350 small block first car

hey guys. im lookin around on craigslist for a first car. i cam across this:http://chicago.craigslist.org/sox/cto/1215461071.html

and was wondering what everyone thought. fuel leak, easy fix. but the oil leak in the 8th cylinder kinda worries me. does this mean a ring replacement? and are rings like tire? (replace one, just replace all of them)

please lemme know, would like to go see the car tomorrow.

yeah that would be rings so you would be rebuilding the engine which is a project and if its ring is damaged who knows how else it was abused i would probably pass on this one and wait for another one to come by

A '92 350 would be pretty tough to find anywhere else and it'll be the best performing 3rd-gen you can get.

I'd see about getting it inspected before I wrote it off. If it's not too expensive to fix it up, it might be worthwhile, 'specially for only $1700.

I would find out what the seller means by "cylinder 8 has a small oil leak". Some people have a weird way of explaining things. Does he really mean an external oil leak, or is he constantly oil fouling a plug in #8?
The T350 trans is non-factory. An automatic car would have come with a 700R4. Possibly a complete engine/trans swap at some time?
Looking at the gauges, you can see the engine is up to operating temperature. The oil pressure is a tad bit low for my liking, not too far off from the red-zone. Looks like the engine is getting tired.

also look at the speedometer. this car looks to be originally a v6 car. v6 speedo's only read to 110mph, v8 to 150mph

Maybe the Z28 went to 150, but an RS/305 (V8) only goes to 110. It hasn't been determined which model this car is? Can't tell what the front badge says.

Check the Vin for the original engine... eighth number for a 350 is "8"....otherwise pass on this car.
