Default 1986 Camaro Advice

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1986 Camaro. It has a 2.8L Crossfire injected v6.

http://stcatharines.kijiji.ca/c-cars...AdIdZ202597106

In the ad it is said that the rear frame rail needs to be replaced. I am wondering how difficult a task this is on a camaro. I have access to a hoist and welder at my high school.

I am just wondering if anyone more experienced with these things can take a look at the ad and tell me if you see anything that stands out.

The pics are in the link....

And i went to take a look and it looks like only 1 rear frame rail on the drivers side need to be replaced. the car is being sold for 500$ so that isn't a huge deal.

Im going to go again soon and bring a jack and take some pictures of the frame to see what you guys think.

Ive seen someone here replace rear frame rails on a Grand Prix and it looked pretty easy.

No i havent but i plan to go back possibly tomorow and bring a jack with me to get a good look at everything under there. Guy told me he would take 350 for it. And he already has the flex lines and rigid lines so all i have to do is install them.

Even if i buy it and it turns out to be beyond fixing i could still part it out for a few hundred bucks.

Edit: Anyone know were to get 3rd gen rear frame rails. Tried google and found nothing.

sounds like a good find for 350. and you probably would be able to make your own frame rails if you were up to the challange haha

There is no such thing as a 3rd gen frame rail. The frame rail is an integrated structural part of the unibody, and isn't replaceable like a old body-on-frame car.

If the damage is isolated, you can cut out the rot with a grinder or torch and re-plate it. Again, this is if the damaged area isn't very big. If it's over a large portion of the unibody, I wouldn't touch that car for anything more than parts.

I would not waste my time. If you can get it for $350 you could make some money parting it out. The dash with no cracks is worth some decent money alone.
