i used my multimeter on the wires goin from the lightswitch to the dimmer switch and the dimmerswitch to the headlights and they all check out (the lightswitch is brandnew) does this mean the dimmer switch is screwed (both my headlights have never worked)

Try to clean all the connections, and replace the headlight, it could be the dimmer switch or just corroded wires. I was getting good readings with a multi meter but the wires that ran by the headers were fried. If you can check a junk yard for f body in good shape and take the whole harness,it may save time and money. The mid 80,s have the same color coded wires so swapping them out will be easy.
