1971 camaro new wheel conversion
 
I need some help guys i'm redoing a 1971 camaro and have some new 2012 20" camaro wheels i want to put on it, they work great on the rear but the front will not go on. Should i use spacers or find some newer spindles to use?

Some drum to disc brake conversion kits may bring the wheels out just a tad, but I'm not aware of "widening spindles" for the purpose of using wheels with more backspacing. Although some people may not like them, I have used wheel adapter spacers on a couple vehicles with no issue at all (as anticipated), and currently have a set on my Jeep. Only use a billet aluminum, "hub-centric" type. If you understand what the hub centric ones do over the cheapo ones, you'll know why I say this. You need to bring the wheels out, not only for clearance purposes, but to restore your center line. For the front, you want to keep the center line of the tire as close to how your current (assuming stock) tires are. Read this: Scrub radius
With that said, to me, wheels with a near zero offset just don't look right on a 1st or 2nd gen Camaro. But if that's what floats your boat....

Really hard to answer your question with no information. You haven't mentioned why they don't fit, or where the interference is? If the tires are rubbing, then you need to figure out how far out they need to move, and whether that is a workable amount. Need to also make sure they don't end up rubbing on the outer fender lip if you do space them out.
Only way I know to check them is to make up some spacers from either washers, or blocks, and put them over the wheel studs. Then with the car on the ground check the travel lock to lock on turns. Also check suspension at various points by pushing down on the fender to see if anything rubs.
Once you have all the info you can determine if a spacer is useable, or the wheels wont work. I don't know of any spindles that will move your wheel mating surface out further. Spacers up to 1/2" can just go over the lug studs, but if you need more you'll need to go with billet spacers that have a 2nd set of studs to connect to the wheel. If it takes over 1" I'd give up on the wheels. Once you space too far out you'll begin to mess up your geometry, and start losing wheel bearings from excess outer loads.

The issue he would be having is the wheels offset/backspacing. The 2012's have in the range of +/- 6" of backspacing. Kind of much to expect for the front hubs to reach. Yes, too little or too much backspacing will increase bearing load. But, going back to the imaginary centerline, even if he needed 2" wide spacer adapters (wouldn't recommend it) to bring the tires back out to center, that wouldn't put any more load on the wheel bearings than he has now. I'm actually surprised the rears cleared. Can't imagine they look "normal" on the car though.

The newer style wheels with their huge back spacing look weird on early cars. The nearly zero front spacing doesn't make a good look on 1st or 2nd gen Camaros. (at least in my opinion)

Not only is the offset different and the front spindle problem but 5th Gen.uses larger 14 mm lug studs and bolt pattern is slightly smaller they will go on only because 2nd Gen. Lugs is smaller but if you look at you will see that the lugs are not centered up in all of the 5holes. I know ,I have a second Gen. and a nice set of 2012 45th Anniversary wheels I wanted to use
