Default Which V8 is it?

Recently bought a 79 T-top project and while doing my reseach found out that the VIN info for the engine doesn't match what I was told it was. The VIN code is G which I understand to be the 305 but the guy i bought it from said it was a transplanted 350. I am not good at visually IDing the difference, any suggestions on how to tell?

If you're talking about an automatic, the shape of the pan tells what type it is: http://www.nastyz28.com/chevy-transm...tification.php

Fantastic. Again exactly what I was looking for. Turns out the car has a '75 350 with a TH350 attached. Tranny has a B&M shifter so it makes me wonder if it has a kit in it. Pan has a leak on it so it has to come down anyway, geuss there is one way to find out about the kit.....

You wont be able to see anything that will indicate a shift kit when you pull the pan. Only way to tell would be to pull the valve body and compare the gasket to a B&M gasket.
