Remove 350 Small Block without transmission
I have a 1970 Camaro with a 383 Stroker. I am looking to take the engine out to rebuild the engine. It has a Munice M22 Drag Special 4 speed transmission. I would like to remove the engine without the transmission. I hear mixed reviews, what are the pros and cons to leaving the transmission. I am not about having to re-adjust the shifter and I am very limited on space in my garage.

I have done it both ways many times. For automatics I normally leave it in. With manuals I normally I pull it out as an assembly. Pulling it out is not a problem. it going back in that can be a pain. Some times they all but fall into place but sometimes I have had issues getting the clutch alignment and get to fall on the mounts at the same time. It can be a challenge if your on your own. Before anyone says anything yes the clutch was aligned. Its just a matter getting the engine straight and level as it goes in.

I've done it both ways, for me I found it easier to pull them together, when it comes time to resemble you don't have to fight it while under the car to get the trans lined up so it slides in all the way. I had an old trans shaft I used for a clutch alignment tool,I liked it better than the wood ones.

My vote also is to pull the engine and trans together. Removing the trans and hooking it back up to the engine is way easier on the floor compared to fighting with it under the car. Even with having to remove the shifter, you'll be time ahead, and with less aggravation.
