Painting Interior Panels.......
What is the best way/process to paint interior panels? I am re-doing the interior of my 81 Z and instead of buying new panels, I just want to do them myself. The panels are in good shape other then they are faded. Here is a pic of what the panels look like.......
I bought paint designed specifically for interior plastic panels and painted mine. Even after following all the steps concerning degreasing, etc. It just didn't hold up well. Looked really good for a couple years, and then it began to flake off and the plastic underneath was even worse afterwards.
I finally broke down and replaced most of the pieces, then bought some black naugahyde and covered some of the pieces I felt could be successfully covered. Best thing I ever did was replace it, as it will last forever, and it looks way better.

what i did for my 78 chevy c-10 truck at the time, i bought some vinyl paint from LMC TRUCK, and sanded all the cracked and rough areas down to 800 grit paper. Then i primered them and sanded again ( not that the primer was necessary) I put 6 coats of paint on and sanded inbetween the 1-4 layers. It turned out great, just look for vinyl paint (around 12 bucks a can) and go for it. Good Luck.
