Heads/pushrods
 

Had this in another section but got no response so I'll try here in 2nd gen.

The motor in my 78 camaro was a 1988 TBI 350 out of a chevy truck (195hp). It has an Eldelbrock manifold and 600cfm carb and 1 5/8 headers and 2.5 inch exhaust (So I don't know what I have for hp now). Intake valves on these motors were 1.84 not 1.94. Other than this, motor is stock. This is a non roller motor.

Now, I have a chance to purchase a set of 062 vortec heads with after market manifold for a good price. If bought, I know there are other things that need to be done and checked first. BUT, If old heads were taken off and vortec heads and manifold put on, is this a straight swap? If not what else needs to be done? Can same push rods be used or are they the wrong length?

Would I gain anything by going to these heads? Would they be better for a future build?

You can bolt them right on with no problem as long as you have the intake to match. Same puhrods will work. High lift cams will create spring bind if they're over around .440 lift. Umbrella seals, or .050" keeper will allow more lift without seal damage. You'll also need self aligning rockers if you go to higher lift later.
Vortec heads should be 1.94/1.50 valve sizes, and thye flow around 227/140 cfm at around .400" lift.

Steer clear of Vortecs with head #10239906

Vortecs will need self aligning rockers regardless of cam.

Don't they have them in stock form?
