Default first camaro please help

i just bought my very first camaro. a 78 rs (5.0). since this is my first 8 cylinder and carb car i have no idea what to do. i put a battery in it and it wants to start but wont. the car is in good shape. its rust free and has very little body damage. the interior could use some work but i just want to get this car on the road. i want to fix it up myself, but dont know where to start after the tune up. any advise would be great thanks

when u say tune up, what did u replace? fuel filter? lets start by dumping a little gas in the carb, about half a shot glass worth and see if it starts.

cool. thanks a lot for your advise i really appreciate it and i'll check it out as soon as i can get the car running good. if i cant, should i invest in rebuilding my engine, or a new bigger engine? i want to have some good power coming from my camaro (around 300-400 hp) but i don't see it happening with a 305. but if i can get the 305 any where close i would be happy. any recommendations on rebuild or get a new engine? and if i get a new engine how big would you recommend for me and my power goals?

i did the fuel thing you suggested and it fired up. the car seems to be running great. i am looking into buying a 454 for it with trany. any advise for me before i do it? i.e. what would need to be swapped out or replaced? or more important will it fit?

so it didnt die right after it started? could be the choke is not working right or it just needed primed. no need to go so big. use a 350 or if u can afford it a 350 stroked to a 383. that way your dealing with the same block which makes life much easier.

not sure on the trans or rear end. what kind of trany is it, if i remember right the th350 or th400 are good tranys from that yr range. see how many bolts hold the cover on the rear end. 12 bolt is a good rear.
