Engine Identification
Forget the back of the block, and go to the boss on the left front (as you're facing the front) The code will tell you what cars it came in.
OK, we're not talking about a "brand specific" engine here, as in the older vintage engines. The "DDF" in the second set of numbers means it's a 1983 305, 145 h.p., LG4 (low output) engine. They were used in "F" body cars (Camaro, Firebird), "B" body cars (full size), and "G" body cars (midsize). It's a GM "corporate" engine, meaning the same engine was used across the GM line, not just Chevy. If the engine you have is going to require any extensive work to be usable, you would be better off using it in a boat....as an anchor!
It runs now, just needs a starter. Picked it up for $100 so its good enough to learn on. I have no interest in building a race car. Later on I may upgrade to a 350 but for now it will do. I was just wanting to know what brand it was so I know what rebuild kit to buy.
Thanks.
Thanks.
