72 Camaro SS

Purchased a 72 camaro SS 396. The car is all original with 38,800 miles and I have few questions;
What are the best spark plugs to use?
What type of engine oil should I use?
Any suggestion on what to check and service, since I just got the car?

thanx

Congrats on the purchase. Reads like a nice Camaro, especially with a 396.
I think if you check the engine code, it possibly could be a 402 CID.
AC R44TS is the recommended plug, or Autolite equivalent, my preference.
I might go a heat range hotter, to 45, ie, R45TS.

Any good brand of engine oil, dino type, petroleum based, 10W30.

Check brakes first. Step really hard on the pedal and pedal should hold.
You may want to flush the brake fluid, DOT 3 or 4 as a second choice.

Rear axle oil, min SAE 80, and SAE 80-90, 75-90 would work also, with a bottle of GM Limited Slip additive. Be watchful, there is gear oil with additives added in, don't use them, use non-additive oil and add the GM additive.
Check inside trunk lid for limited slip axle decal, and if not there, check spare tire size and compare with the installed tires. If the same, 15 inch, limited slip axle.

Trans oil, if auto, DEXRON III, with filter, 4-6 qts; if manual, SAE 75-90, 2 qts.
Be sure to change fuel filter and soft hoses, all of them, check at the tank.

All this above info is explained in the Owner's Manual.
If no OM, you can order one from Helm Publications.

Enjoy the journey.

I always used Champion RJ12YC in mine, but brand is a personal choice.

Than you for the reply, these information are really helpful.
Yes it is a 402 CID

I'm using the same RJ12YC in my 327, and my 465 BBC also. Just happens to work well in a lot of Chevy engines with larger sparkplug sizes. It was what Edelbrock reccommended for their aluminum heads on my 465 Chevy.
