305 Cylinder Heads

So i am lookin at some new heads for my 76 camaro with a 305 not sure what would be a good head to get i want alot of power but only lookin to spend around $400 for the heads... Anyone have any ideas...i have the original intake manifold on and i am spending almost $500 on the exhaust which consist of hooker comp headers X pipe and flowmaster 40 series with dumps so their will not be much pipe on it

I would take the stock heads off and take them to a good machine shop to have the valves and seats replaced. My machine shop makes 1.94 heads from the wimpy 305 stock heads for $300. That's all new hardened seats, new valves and guides, which will make them flow extremely well and give you cheap HP.
Of course the real HP gain on a 305 is to do this head/valve conversion and also install a good cam and intake. The lowly 195 hp 305 can get about 350-375 hp with theses changes.

I highly suggest that you upgrade to a 350 in the future.

Yeah you have to have them lined up, heres a video to watch, it might help. But like Vall said, i would put a new cam in it to so whatever you do to your heads the cam can work with it.

well i dont have the money for a cam right now but what type of cam should i get their are alot of different types and sizes

I couldnt tell you what to get but im sure you'll have a better idea what to get once you get your heads done. You prob dont want something to big if your using those same 111k pistons.

ya true...so i got my timming chain on and i think i might have a problem not sure... the dots are lined up TDC like this : but the left side looking at it from the front is rreally tight and the right ride is kinda loose it has some slack in it is that ok or no

I am definetly not an expert but i would get something like a ī85, 416 hads, maybe some new valves 1.94, 1.6 and 268H cam, headers, I did this with a 79 350, came out pretty good, not the best but it was cheap, I can only guess itīll work fine for a 305
