1980 Z28, Worth my money?

1 Attachment(s)
Hello, Me and my father are about to buy a 1980 Z28 *factory original Z28* with a 383 stroker engine with less than 8K miles on it, The body only needs some rust taken care of and it's a four on the floor transmission, Body other than the minor rust is in perfect shape, Looks to be the original rims too, But if we do buy it we are going to either paint it classic Red or Black.

Anyways, the car is 4500, Runs and drives fine, Should we invest our money in this car?

every time i think about a car with minor rust . i then wonder about the rust you can't see.
then $4,500.00 on top of that. sounds a little high to me.

A little high? haha, that's rather low compared to the others I've found here. But, We went and took a more personal look at the car, it sounds like a dream, Dual flowmaster exhaust's pumping out the sound of that 383 stroker. But the "Minor rust", Was more like "Oh yeah, there are minor rust spots, but where the rust is it goes all the way through" So instead, We are looking at a 76 z28 with a regular ol 350 *Joking of course*, 3200 and it only needs new front seats, according to the seller.

Thanks for the input though.

How is it factory original if it's got a 383 engine in it?

Secondly, there was no Z28 in '76. You might want to do a bit of research before you look too much further, just to be sure you're not getting ripped off.

Keep looking,if it is a low mile 383 he has some money tied up in it but that doesn't necessarily translate into equal value on resale.

on the 76 I meant 79 *I was looking at cars on craigslist and got the years mixed up* but it's not a Z28, What I meant about the Factory Original Z28 part was that it wasn't just a base camaro that someone made INTO a Z28, Not the car is all original, Y2k, Yes we are going to keep looking, Even though it pains me that such an awesome car with such an awesome motor is going to slip through my fingers, We have to stay within our budget.

There is always the 2010 LT 6 cyl at the chevy dealership here... haha, I still cannot believe Chevy got 305 HP out of their 6 cylinder engine.

how bad is the rust, sounds like a good father/son project if you can get it for a lower price!

Well, The left rear quarters, Trunk pan/lid, Passenger Floorboards and frame rails would have to be replaced.

That is of course if you are talking about the 80 Z28.

The 79 got sold yesterday.

If there is rust in the lower quarters........................just think what the floor looks like where the back subframe bolts up................yikes.....that might be why he has flowmasters on it...... so you can't hear washers rattling....... you didn't let one fall through your hands, you saved a headache bro. just an example......(if you do things the right way), you are looking at least 8,000-10,000 just on solidifying the body, these are subframed cars, that rusted out quarter panel is part of what holds it together. Run Forest Run
