V6 to v8 need hellp?!!

I read the qs and a's on the last person who had this question but i have some q's of my own i have a plain jane 87 camaro with a blown up 2.8 not an rs jus camaro it has a 4 speed auto and i dont no what it is whether its the 700 r4 or what how can i tell? Will this stand up to a 300 horse 350 and will the rear end hold up ? Found a carburated 350 out of a burban and a turbo 350 tranny i was told there is torque bars from the tranny to the diff do i need to get a tranny out of a camaro/ trans am or does it matter? I was told if u put just a regular turbo 350 no torque bars it will twist and smash on the center console is this true? Honestly what am i gettin myself into i work at a dealer ship i have full use of the shop and lifts i have a mechanic helpin but this is nissan so im lookin for some chevy no how

You won't be able to use a transmission from a V6 engine with a V8. They have different bellhousing and it won't bolt up.

Al right thanx man do you know anything about the torque bar can i use any turbo 350 ????? Ivgot a carburated 350 with headers and a turbo 350 tranny lined up for $700 but i dont wanna buy the tranny if it wont work

t350 and the V6 and V8 700R4's have different tale shaft housing. The 700 has a spot with the four or three bolts "cant remember" for the torque mount the t350 does not, that I know of. You might be able to change the tale housing out or swap them, not sure. and yes BAD things would happen if the torque arm was not there. As for the rear end, if its the same as my 2.8 you prolly would want to change it. The camaro came with two different sized axles one for the 2.8 and one for the v8's. that and its an open rear end. 300hp You will lose a tone of traction if you don't change it.

The T350 wasn't used in the torque arm vintage f-bodies, so they don't come equipped to mount the arm to. You can't go without the torque arm or the rear axle will wrap up like a pretzel. This is what you'll need to install, then the T350 will work. Torque Arm Relocation Kit

If you're asking if the tail housing from the 700 can swap to the 350, then no. But, if your T350 has the 9" long tail housing, you won't need to have your driveshaft lengthened.

Thanks for the help, I was not sure if the tale housing would swap or not have not gotten into them with great depth yet.

So i found out my camaro has a 700r4 would it be cheaper to rebuild it and buy new bell housing or stick with the turbo 350 wich will give me better performance

Gorn 03-14-2010 01:03 PM

You can not change the bell housing on automatic. Thats a stand only thing. Transmission case would have to be replaces. V8 Cores 700 R4 are cheap if you are willing to pay for the rebuild

700 R4 will out preform the Th350 due to the gears but it will cost you a few pennies more for the rebuild.
