Yeah they look better with black when you have aluminum heads. I would answer the trans question but not sure so I'll leave that to someone else. There will be someone to know.

Yeah, you seem to pay a little extra to have the word Chevrolet on them. I like the cast aluminum covers but close to 300 is a little high when you can get a good set of headers for almost the same....Are you going with coated or wraped headers?

I got a set of Hooker competition headers that were high temp black painted. Should I coat or wrap the headers?

I think they are more for looks then weight.......I would wrap them, and what ever you do get a heat sheild for the starter or you will melt one every six months. The headers will rust within the first few times of runnin the car, So paint them with some high heat paint, let it dry then wrap them.
