1976 camaro TH350 Problems

I have a 1976 camaro with a 350 and a Rochester quadrajet carburator and a turbo 350 tranny. About a month ago I noticed that when I tried accelerating like from a stop light my car seemed to struggle a lot to get going. The engine would rev up but it would go very slowly, then when it finally shifted to second it would start accelerating pretty normal. After a couple of days it would still struggle to accelerate and when it tried to shift to second it seemed to struggle a lot to shift gear. Yesterday it was doing the same thing but now it barely moves forward at all. I managed to still drive home buy could not go any faster than about 20 cause I would step on it and it seemed like it would shift to neutral on its own. I really don't know anything about transmissions but I heard it could ne some vacuum lines or a cable that might not be adjusted right and not the transmission itself. I plan on messing with it tomorrow and just wanted to see if anyone here has ever had a problem similar to this and could give me some pointers on what I could do. Oh, and I checked the fluid in park, hot and it was full, and it looked pretty clean. I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks

Any idea how many miles there are on the trans? Sounds like clutches to me, but it probably wont be an easy fix regardless.

It will be after some one get the tranney out and takes it over to some one to rebuild. Only way I know to make it drive again.

I really don't know how many miles are on it. I bought the car last September so I have no idea.

I'd guess if the mileage is unknown you're probably going to either replace or repair it. Not sure how things are in your area, but around here TH350's are dirt cheap. I see them often on local craigslist for $150-$200 and often with receipts for recent rebuilds. I'd be looking for a good used one and not waste much time or money with it.

Does the fluild smell like burn hair on a pile of poop? It will still be red but not like a cherry. There is a vacuum modulator next to the tail shaft with a hose. Check the hose all the way to the carb. If its covered in oil then clean and inspect. Oil will make it swell. There might still be steel tubing to the carb. The modulator is 15 bucks. But what you describe sounds like more. Was the engine running when you checked it?

BTW the trans can be built very well for about 500 plus labor.

the described issue sounds like clutch packs either way you have to pull it by chance if its not the packs its a converter issue it will still need to be rebuilt
