Newbie with possible stupid question
Is it possible to take the body off of a 1970 Camaro and actually mount it on a newer chassis including the floors and firewall with dash kinda like they do the crown Vic swaps on a old Ford truck .. they are able to use the new style dash etc.. anything like this been done

Front fenders bolt on. Rest of body, firewall back, is one piece - unibody
Stupid question is the one not asked. |
Its called lots and lots of money

The above chassis is the way to go. You can get away with chassis swaps on trucks because you are just replacing a chassis with a different chassis. Since the Camaro is a unibody that sits real low there is just very little room for a chassis to be added. That is why a custom built chassis is about your only options. Now if you are looking for doing this on the cheap and you have some skills with a welder, you can find a C4 corvette parts car steal the front and rear suspension, fab it into your 2nd gen then add a roll bar with sub frame supports and you should end up with a car that would match a modern Camaro/Mustang handling. People always forget that in 1984 the C4 was the first production car to be able to hold 1 G on corners and back then tires where the biggest limitation.
The great thing about 1st and second gen camaros is there are so many options out there. |
Hard to beat the performance of a new up-to-date chassis with the latest engineering.
