Hi guys, I'm new to the forum so I hope this is in the right place. I've got a 1980 Camaro berlinetta with a stock 305 and I'm trying to fix some vacuum issues. She runs rough and shakes at low rpm, below 1000. Other than that runs perfect. I think I have at least a vacuum issue. The guy I bought it from has obviously messed with vacuum, plugging and rerouting lines. I've been researching it and I can't seem to find a diagram or anything that really matches what I'm looking at under the hood... I'm not great with vacuum so I'd really appreciate any tips or even a good link to the right diagram.
thanks
Well it looks like spaghetti and I'm thinking that carb may be too much for a stock 305 especially without some headers.
I'd reroute that wire to your electric choke and get it off the plug wires on the distributor just for starters and I see a couple potential bad spots but it's hard to tell on this picture, anyway along with the aforementioned wire I circled them in red here,is there anything hooked up to the vacuum advance on your distributor?
That and what's that short line in front of the carb that looks like it's not going to anything?
Thanks for the reply. I moved that choke wire, plugged the back vacuum line, a T coming from the vacuum advance for some reason, and the front was a port from the thermostat housing, plugged it too. I also found a manifold vacuum hose going behind the engine that wasn't hooked up. It now idles at 800 rpm smooth and 18 in hg, rev and it goes to 5 and back up to 25 then to 18. However, I have to run my vacuum advance to the lower carb vacuum port or I drop to 16 in hg. And I have to have my mixture screws open about 2.5 turns. I'm going to check my plugs and timing tomorrow as I ran out of time today. Also, carb is a 600 cfm edelbrock but isn't acting any different from the stock qjet that was on before and the engine still shakes a little at 800 rpm, but not the whole car like it was yesterday
Don't mean to change the subject, but get rid of that crappy plastic fuel filter. That's a carbeque waiting to happen, especially the way it's situated. Replace with a metal filter, and get it off the alternator.
