Whatever color you choose will combine with the candy apple red, so think of it like you were mixing the colors to get a color. If the flames were any shade of gray to black then the end color will be some shade of darker red, depending on how dark the flames are. If you went orange, then that would lighten up the red and create a dark orange or lighter red just like mixing orange and red.
Ghost flames will be highly visable if the color used contrasts a lot with the top coat, so if you want them to be more ghost effect, then go closer in shade (not color) to the top coat. Hope this makes sense.

yeah val makes perfect sense,lots of good information there never tried any ghost flames with candy apple red before so whatever color i choose will come out some sort of red,i think im gonna go with the yellow and orange flames,seen a few done like that they look awesome like real fire.i want my flames to be visible just more suddle.

just wondering if anyone has any experience or knowledge of kirker paints,they also make a candy apple red paint but a little cheaper.i have used there primer 2k high build,and there epoxy primer with good success,but never tried there basecoats.or candys,

Never heard of Kirker, but then I'm not a painter. I've never heard of the brand my Austin is getting painted with either, but the painter swears by it. Spies Hecker??? Supposed to be $100 a pint, but he says it covers so much better that he uses less than $500 total for base and clear.
