mini project today (just to reinforce my friend Pauls idea of playing frogger on this car, we hop in another direction!), pulled the old gas tank. took a grand total of about 15 min lucky for me the straps and clips are in great shape and can be reused. Just need the new tank. Oh and i found another squirrels nest ! . . . that makes 7.

So question - there are two lines going into the tank. Im assuming this is a fuel line and a return line. The question is how do i know which line on the car goes to which line on the tank ? And what happens if i get them backwards ?

The supply line is the only one in the sending unit. The return is the other one on top. Easy.

The larger one is supply. One is 3/8" and the other 5/16" I think. Hard for me to remember mine are -8 now.

another friend suggested blowing air back through the feed line from the engine bay to figure out the fuel line vs the return. So since youve told me the feed line goes to the one coming out of the sending unit I can get them right

Are you sure you need to replace the tank? Is it rotted, or full of junk inside? Might be able to clean it up and save some money if it's not too bad inside.

Its a funnel, it is good for moving gas from the top of the car to under the car about 18 inches back Its already in a dumpster and I found a new one for 40$ with straps.
