I'm working on pulling together all the parts and what-not to get the engine rebuild done in the shortest amount of time possible.
I found a 350 vortec engine that looks to be in good shape. They went to a bigger engine size and no longer need this one.
I could really use the heads and I also wanted to convert over to the newer serpentine belt stile. The biggest thing I'll haft to buy if the heads fit my block would be a new intake. As said before the bolts are different from the Tbi-Vortec heads.
Heres some pics of the engine. Thoughts?

Its another Tbi engine from a 1994 pickup. Got me again....
Oh the other hand, I might still get it as its a newer block thats not been bored over yet. My current engine is from an 89 pickup.
So I got the 94 sbc350 home and on my engine stand.
Bad news is that its seized. I should be able to get it taken apart tonight and figure out whats gone wrong. Wish me luck...

I got it for $50, just had to pick it up. Its a cherry engine, all stock; never opened up.
I was able to remove the intake. A lot of carbon build up, but nothing new.
Then I removed the right side head. All the cylinders looked clean except for a wear ring around the top. The kids were about to go to bed, so I was not able to do any more for tonight.
My best guess is that the crank is locked up. I'll find out in the morning, hopefully. At least the heads seem to be in better shape than the ones I'm running now.

Cherry is running to me. I hope it not dead inside. My last 355 punched a rod through the inside of the motor. Bent the rod lke a drop pitman arm. Bent the crank, exploded a piston. And sent rings everywhere. I found rings on the opposite side stuck under a closed valve. From the outside it looked perfectly fine. Total bill. $700 to fix the heads, forged crank in the trash and everything else besides the cam wand 6 rods was toast.
If the crank spun a bearing it rarely seizes the engine, but it could happen. I'd suspect you might find a cylinder that the piston is stuck once you get the engine completely apart.
I once picked up a 4.3 from an Astro van that was seized. Appeared that the PO never changed the oil, and it was thicker than grease in the pan. The bearings had a melt down and bound themselves to the journals. Surprisingly, the crank was perfectly good after a little under-sizing.
Good news and bad news.
I'll start with the bad.
Did anyone ever place a quarter on a railroad track for a train to run over and flatten out?
That's all of the barrings on the crank and connecting rods.
The block will be ok after I get it line bored I think. It seems like it just lost oil presser or something as ALL the barrings where spun or missing there tangs. It had an oil filter relocater with hook ups for an external oil cooler. I Really don't trust this thing at all.
The good news is that I'll be able to use the old crank for an interesting mailbox post.
All in all, I think I got my $50 from the heads and block.
