yup another problem. starting in park
Ive got to take in out of park and slam it back into park about 5 times then my car will start. What could my problem be? seems like every time i get 1 problem fixed another one pops up.

Well all feel that way from time to time. Don't slam it into park. Try reaching over with your left had and holding the gear lever up as far as it goes. Does it have tilt steering? Floor shift? Sounds like your not making the neutral saftey switch. While I can tell you exactly whats wrong. I can tell you about a car I had got, dude said, "all it needs is a new head." I wound putting on a new head, two engines, new brake lines, wheel cylinders, fuel lines, and a new starter on. Everytime I tried to pull out of the garage It would leak something from somewhere. So I know where your coming from.

yeah it is deff a Neutral Safety Switch, i had a similar problem in my Suburban after i changed the tranny, my cable was just a little bit too long and i had to occasionally slam it into park, your cable might be a hair too long as well, check the linkage

If you pull the plate on the console you can adjust the stop on the shifter to allow a little more movement to help the switch make.

...and I think most of us on here will sympathize with the one "problem after another" comment. It's just the way it goes with an older car.

Decided to dig out my old Motors Manual to see what it says. It says in the manual that the neutral safety switch is on the column for column shift, and in the console for console shifter. Both are slotted and have screws that are loosened to slide it for adjustment according to the manual.

Yes I know that. Mine is on the column also, and it's a floor shifter. This is one of those cases where the Motors manual covers numerous years, and it looks like they got it wrong.
