I blasted my car down today. For those who don't know the previous owner blasted the bottom and coated it with this stuff. I used to think it would be a save all. Now I hate it. Here's why.

It literally came off the rocker panel in sheets. Not much adhesion here. I can get better adhesion from epoxy primer for less than half price.Name: 026-5.jpg

Then there's the fact that my car has never been outside overnight since it was done. However long ago it was there is no excuse for rust like this. This is the trunk floor. I haven't even washed the car.Name: 029-3.jpg

Guess the qualities of neutralizing rust aren't what they advertise.

wow that blows, you used alot of that stuff, hope nothing else rusts through on you. Maybe you have to clean and sand the surface real good or put the crap on thicker?

What did the previous owner "blast the bottom" with, before coating it?

My 56 olds had the same deal on pieces of the frame and stuff and it is the same way but im not sure if the frame was blasted or not. Lucky for me they did install new floor pans and fender wells in the car.

He said he blasted with sand then used marine clean. It could very well be his cleanliness that caused it. The stuff I put on hasn't moved but this stuffis almost 20yrs old. The rust is my biggest worry. Its on the trunk floor. Not an area that sees much water, specialy stored inside.

I was posting so others don't spend a ton on this stuff thinking its a cure all.

I'm not a fan of POR15 I have heard from some people that are in the business of restoring cars that POR15 is a isn't reliable if the conditions aren't right during application it's more of a liability using that stuff. Thats why I went with epoxy myself on my car.

Ya, I think the people that did the body work on my car sprayed some of that stuff in the truck and its all coming off in basically 4-7 inch sheets. Luckily mine is inside the garage right now.

I like Black Magic rust converter applied before the paint, if there's any reason to believe you didn't get all the rust off, or there may be hidden rust. It works great as a neutralizer, and I pour it into places where you just can't blast or clean, and on surfaces that are porous from rust pitting.
Edit: That should be Black Star rust converter!
