Default where can i find a 1970 lt1?

Im rebuilding my 70 and its not a matching numbers car, but I think it'd be cool to have the original z28 motor. I live in LA. If anyone could help me find one either rebuilt or not that'd be great. Thanks

You could built an ordinary 350 to the same specs. I'm not sure what head came on them but after that your just an intake/carb and cam away basically.

If you truly want a numbers matching engine, then it will need to have the correct numbers and codes for a 1970 Z28. Just building a 350 from a 1970 block will not get you there, as the code suffix will give away what it was.
They can be foiund, but you'll need to do a google search of engine rebuilders and contact them to tell them what you're looking for, which in turn will jack the prices even higher than normal.
I personally think you're setting yourself up for a huge loss of funds, as people wont let one of these go cheaply once they know you really need it to make a "numbers matching" car. And after all the expense, it still wont be numbers matching, it will just be a correct year and type of engine for a '70 Z28, and not for your '70 Z28.
Your time and money will be better spent building a correct clone engine that looks and sounds like a 1970 Z28 350, without any concern about what year it came from. Much cheaper, and wont really change anything value wise.

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression. Im not interested in making a matching numbers car at all. Im not even worried about the value of my car. I just thought it would be cool to have the same type of engine it came with. Its really not that big of a deal. I set up my suspension for a 350 but I haven't picked out the engine yet. I was looking for performance but also drivability. I was looking at the gm high output 350 also. What are your thoughts on that alternative?

The GM hi output is a great choice, and if you can get it with heads for traditional valve cover bolts it will make a nice install. I don't care for the look of the center bolts on later Vortec heads, but I sure can't knock the performance they give! I'd probably get the adapter girdles for Vortecs if I ran them, so they would accept std. valve covers.

Hey Vall, have you seen Steve's V/Cs. They are down right sexy for center bolts.

Yes! Those would be my only choice for centerbolt heads! They definitely look better than anything else I've seen.
Guess I was thinking old school type covers, as I toyed with putting Vortecs on my Austin's 327, and wanted something more retro for it. I may have to rethink that.
