Default Wheel / Tire choices...

OK, I need some opinions on a good wheel tire choice for the 78' Camaro. The car currently has a 9' Ford rear and factory suspension up front. Rear axle is same width as the old 10 Bolt. Question is, What backspacing do I need to run? What bolt Pattern? And what is the widest tire I can fit both in the front and rear of the car?

Thanks

I run 15'' x 10'' on the back with 265/60r15 and the fronts are 15'' x 8'' with 215/60r15 the backs seem to take up most of the wheel wells but no rubbing and the fronts are the same

You sure those aren't 6" or 7" up front? 215 is pretty narrow for an 8" rim. I'm running 235 up front on a 7" rim and the wheels look wider than your's.

Yeah, I'm running a 7 inch rim up front with a 235/60/15. 215's seem a little skinny but I think those are the stock size for my Camaro's rim originally.

BigBlock87Camaro> Stock 2nd gen Z28 five spoke rims run 4.25 backspacing with 15x7 rims. 235/60/15's are about the biggest you can get away with without rubbing from what I understand. You can do a search in this forum as there are a large number of threads on the subject. You can probably pull every rim and tire setup ever put on a Camaro from that search alone, ha ha.

17x9 w/5" back space in front and 17x10 with 5 1/2 back space rear I'm not sure on rubber yet but at least 295 in back.

How do you guys get away with so much backspacing? I've got 3.5" and I still rub occasionally inside.

Maybe your rearend is just loose.

Sorry, just felt compelled to say it, ha ha.

Maybe we should make a sticky in each generation with tire/wheel combos and let people post their own setups that they've run in there.

Where do they rub Vall? My 15's would rub the lower shock mount. The 17's on my car now have about an inch more backspace but because of the greater diameter they clear the shock mounts.

I'm getting a set of '70 to '78 or '79 Z28 15x7 5 spoke mag style wheels. They have 4.250" back spacing and .300" offset. I'm going to run 235/60-15 on the front and 255/60-15 on the rear. Everyone I've talked to that has run this set up says they've never had and rubbing issues at all. Hopefully I'll have the same luck!
