Bit of a setback on the intake/carb swap. Put kits in both carbs before instaslling the new setup, but one just didn't take a kit well. When I started it up it gushed raw gas out the tailpipe, and I ended up pulling the bowl to check the float, and couldn't see a problem. Finally got it restarted and left the fuel pump turned off to run it out of gas and empty the bowls again.
After a lot of discussion with myself and the carb we both decided to give up on each other and part ways. Got on the phone to Summit and ordered two new 450 Holleys set up for a dual carb system. These old 450's were modified to use on a dual quad setup, but not really designed for that. Sometimes I just have to cry uncle and get a fresh start. Should be close to Christmas before I get the new carbs and get her running again.

I guess you should have stuffed the cardboard back into the bowl.

It was actually the other carb, and the secondary bowl that had cardboard. This was the primary bowl of the rear carb. That was also the same carb that had never been rebuilt from what I could tell. Just bad luck I guess.
Good news is the Holleys that are factory built for dual quad setups are way cheaper. Under $500 for both carbs.

I bought a car cover for my baby. Tomorrow if I have a chance I will put it on her and also put some fuel stabilizer in her.

Yep, these are the bare bones Holleys with no chokes and mechanical secondaries without accelerator pumps on the secondaries. Strictly for dual carb use.
