ways to lessen weight?
hi,
My car weighs around 3200-3300lbs. I would like to drop 100-200lbs. I know a fiberglass hood or no hood and no A/C would help but could i get fiberglass doors or hard plastic instead of glass?
what are some ways to reduce the weight without sacrificing too much comfort or mods?

You also don't want to sacrifice safety. If it's a street driven car, you could end up getting killed in a side impact crash with fiberglass doors. Are you just trying to make the car quicker in general, or actually racing it? Lightweight racing seats instead of the heavy factory ones are another place to save. You could remove the inner fenders, if you don't drive it in sloppy weather. Or put on fiberglass front fenders, or a complete front end.

so could i drop a few hundred pounds with:
getting lighter weight racing seats
no A/C
no spare tire
lighter battery
no hood( when at strip)
complete urethane front end
maybe lighter racing wheels

with all of that u could easily drop a few hundred pounds, the ac will save u 30 lbs alone, no spare tire and jack and all of that is another 50, if u have the same bumper-jack assembly that came with my 78 at least lol

What is your goal with the car? Getting it down to around 3000 lbs. will save time at the 1/4 mile, but the rest the time you'll be stuck without a spare, or having fenders that are prone to cracking or not fitting properly.
Do you want a fast car, or a good looking car that's nearly as fast? The small difference wont mean a lot, and it's going to cost plenty for just the occasional run down the 1/8 or 1/4 mile.
My car is way heavier than the average Camaro because of the BBC engine, and the rollcage. I'd like it to weigh less, but I also like the comfort and look of it the way it is, so I don't have any desire to shed things that would make it uncomfortable or ugly.
By the way, check the fiberglass hood ship weight, vs. steel. Not much difference with the new hoods being so much lighter than stock hoods.
