Default U- joints

ok. i am putting a new tranny in my car. and i figured since im changing it and waiting for it to be finished. change the u joints. ive done it before but i cannot get that clips behind the cup out. i tried moving the joint over to one side to get at it with a c-clamp and an old socket an a hammer. i cannot get these joints out of the shaft.....any tricks to this i am missing.?

If memeory serves me correctly....

remove both c-clips
then push both cups in the same direction...you will drive one out and one into the yoke
remove the cup the comes out
press the ujoint the other way (usinga socket and vice on the now cupless end of hte ujoint) to force the last cup back into and out of the yoke.

....oops...answered the wrong question......

try re-orientating the clips so that the non open end is on the ouside of the joint. Then use a scredriver and hammer to remove them.

GM put the green stuff in at the factory. Nothing to worry about, don't know what their
reasoning was, just a nuisance when you heat them. Did you get your clips off?
I sometimes have problems with rusty ones, I used a hammer and punch. Just set the punch on the clip, knock it with the hammer to remove rust and loosen the clip. If the caps still press real hard be carefull not to bend the yoke too much. If the yoke ends get too close it makes for a really tight joint when you are done.

yeah i read in my book i got from school that the green plastic was used to lock it in place. so i heated it up till the cup poped up. there is no clips on original ujoints using the green plastic at least not on this paticular application. thanks for the help though i just got the joint out like 10 mins ago
