Tunnel Ram Setup

I am getting ready to install a tunnel ram setup on my 79 Z28. I was wondering if anyone on here has any pics and info on how they ran the linkage? It has a turbo 350 trans so I will also need to hook up the kick-down cable. It has two Holly 450's in line. It seems like everything I see is for side by side mounted carbs. I would like to retain the stock cables if at all possible.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice....

This is mine, carbs in-line. No kickdown cable, my T350 has a manual valve body.

Didn't Vall do something on the Austin to change the way his pulled?

Yes, with a bell crank type setup because his carbs aren't in-line. That setup won't do Bad Z28 any good, as his are situated like mine are.

Yes, mine are not inline like Camaro 69's are. There's tons of inexpensive linkage options for inlines. I don't know of anything for a tunnel ram that allows for the kickdown cable though. I'd guess you'll either need to abandon it and go manual shift kit, or build your own adapter to make it work.
I'd really consider going to a Spectre or Lokar universal throttle cable though, as it will make it all much easier no matter what linkage you use.

One tip if you're going to a tunnel ram and dual carbs. Check your carbs to see what accelerator pumps you have! If they're the stock 30cc pumps you might want to change them before you even install the tunnel ram. 50cc pumps will really make a difference in the off idle acceleration and stumble. Ask me how I know.:)

How do you know? There, I asked. ;)
On a serious note though, you can put the kickdown cable on a lower hole on the carb linkage. Getting the cable to reach up there could be the real trick though. Creative bracketry angling upward, perhaps.

I have seen the Lokar kits. I seen the cables for the regular holly sigle carb set up with a kick-down cable. Could I use something like that and just hook it to the rear carb? Would it work ok pulling everything from the rear carb???

This is the intake and carb set-up I am installing...http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/...74#moreDetails

That's the same setup I have, the Weiand intake and 450's. Yeah, it'll work pulling the kickdown from the rear carb, they're tied together with that cross-bar. As long as that cable you're looking at will reach up. And you may have to play with which linkage hole to mount it in, to get the right amount of travel.

Ok....Thanks.... I will post some pics of the install to maybe help out the next guy. So you say I should swap out those accelerator pumps? do you have a number or anything for the ones you think will work. I do not drive this car must but would like for it to run ok when I do. I have owned the car for over 12 years and have put less then 3000 mile on it. The car had 29K on it when I got it. Some guys say that I am crazy for doing mods to it but hey it's all about what ya what to do right....lol
