Default Tranny Won't Fit

So I picked up a th350 to replace the one that crapped out in my 78 camaro, only to find out that it's different then the one I had in the car. The new tranny is a th350-c with lock up and the other one isn't. Before installing it, my uncle and my cousin switched out the kick down aswell as a few other parts and when we went to bolt it in it wouldn't fit. I guess the torque conveter is hitting the fly wheel and they were unable to bolt it on. Any idea what the problem is? I'm pretty well clueless when it comes to tranny's and my family can't figure it out either. The one thing we did notice, however, is that with the original tranny's torque conveter the ring (inside the shaft that slides onto the tranny) is pretty well smooth, while the ring in the replacement tranny's torque conveter isn't smooth at all (ring looks like it has chips out of it all the way around) Not sure if it is suppose to be like that, but we were thinking that it may prevent the torque conveter from sliding on all the way and thus hitting the flywheel.

Let me know if you have any ideas

Thanks guys

IS the converter engaged into the pump? Thats what it sounds like your problem is. Try spinning it while pushing the converer back into the tranny.

^^ yeah it sounds like your TC isn't seated propper, turn it back and forth pushing into each gear. Once you find the first slot turn the opposite way and so on.

Are you trying to use the torque converter from the old T350 on the new T350C? That won't work, as they both have different input spline configurations.
If that's what you're trying to do, that's your fitment problem. You have to use the 350C torque converter with the 350C trans.

That's the first thing we tried and it didn't solve the problem. I figured out the problem though, the damn scrap yard sold me a 700r4 instead of a turbo350, and like I said when it comes to transmissions my knowledge is limitted so I thought I had th350. Gonna go take it back and switch it for a th350.

Sorry man, but I gotta laugh a little too...nyuk, nyuk!
Ok, got that outta my system. The shape of the pan tells the story.
Here, print this out and take it with you to the boneyard: http://www.nastyz28.com/chevy-transm...tification.php

Was there any point when the 700r4 used the same pan as a 350? like around the early 1980's
