Default Trade UP????

Alright so i have a 1977 camaro with the stock 305 and automatic 3spd tranny and its has power windows, locks, AC, Cruise, all that extra stuff and iam really into modding things and making them better well now that iam painting this car for the second time... i kinda ran into an offer i trade off the 1977 camaro for a 1971 camaro... sounds wonderful... mine has 2 new quarters and 2 fender patches but all stock under the hood its just a v8 car nothing special no z28 or RS i dont think i still cant determine that!, but his 1971 has no body work done to it at all its got a 400 sbc thats been rebuilt with a different camshaft and hes got a 4spd manual saginaw tranny on it, the body will need 2 new quarters and probably some fender work my question is would it be worth trading straight across for his or would i be screwing my self out of a finished body, iam also building a 383 stroker for the 77! One more thing i want to add his was just a six cylinder car nothing special once again no v8 z28 or RS just a six cylinder 1971 camaro that needs body work- Is it worth the trade? Any Comments are Appreciated!

Personally Id say no, unless he throws a few grand in the deal with the 71. the best deal would be trade off the 77 for the 71 and a couple grand.tell him to keep his motor and put your 383 in the 71. Like you said the body on the 77 is done and the 71 needs to be done. With the 4spd, it would be a really nice machine.

Thats kinda the general census of what i should do, the body work that i did would be about 7 grand at a body shop so i would really be biting the bullet by trading him straight across, but if he threw 2500 in on the deal minus the 400 sbc i could redo the body and that would cover alot of the sheet metal fees thats the most expensive part .. .all that sheetmetal but if i dont even sell to this guy how much do you guys think i could get for my 77, it has
2 new quarters
2 new fender patches
3spd automatic
new carpet and headliner
still runs with the 305 thats got 167,xxx miles on it
brand new paint job Le-Mans Blue(not done yet but soon)
the body should be straight as an arrow i blocked the entire car out with 320 and fixed all the tiny dings
Power Locks, Windows, AC, Cruise Control etc.
maybe 5 or 6?

Awesome well i really like that front end and the rear end on the 70-73, so what do you think like 2500 and the car with no motor for my 77 ? it is just a plain old 71 camaro six cylinder car but it seems to have more of a muscle look, i hope my 77 turns out nice ill throw a couple of pictures on the web once its done being painted blue, one more question what size tire are you rolling on in the back and the front, right now i got 235/70/15s in teh back adn 195/70/15s in the front.

Yeah, $2k -$2500 sounds reasonable, depends on what you feel your time is worth. Sheetmetal work don't do itself. You can check out my photo album, just click the camera icon under my avatar, I just uploaded some new pics today. I had 245/60R15 front and 255/60R15 rear w/the Cragars, now I'm running 235/60R15's on all four. Cant wait to see your pics.
