Default Thinking of buying a 1980 camaro

Hi Everyone,

First post, just joined the forum and hope to be here for a while.

Had a 2001 z28 which I absolutely loved but had to sell it for a 4 door ride (family). Recently, someone I used to work with emailed me saying that he is selling his 1980 Camaro for $2000. I already have 2 daily driver cars so I am really thinking about buying this. This is what he sent me as a description-

1980 Camaro - 130k miles, MSD Ignition, hurst shifter, new steering column, plugs, wires and battery. Not to mention to brakes and lines all the way around. small rust spot not even noticeable lower rear corner panel in front of rear tires. it is common for camaros to rust in this spot. no bondo, never been wrecked. 350 cam'd out, deep sound, very strong motor.
This car will need Door panels on both doors, door handles for the windows and a backseat. If you so choose to have them in the car.

My main concern is that I don't work on cars or know much about them...I have been hearing some mixed suggestions from friends so I am turning to this board for help. Should I buy this?

how many miles on the motor and trans? that is a lot of miles if the motor has not been rebuilt. with the interior stripped and the mods i would say the car has been run hard.

he said 130,000 miles on motor and trans...you are probably right about the car being run hard. Would it still be worth it for $1800-2000? I have looked around and can't find anything decent in that price range..

Thanks again for your help!

im sure its worth it. i was just tryin to point out that it will be needing some investment, some may be big like a trany or motor rebuild or it may be itll run for another 20k without to many issues. u know that u will need interior parts from the get go.

Thanks!! I don't even know how much a engine trany rebuild will cost.. I guess I need to research all that stuff. Worst case I can just have the car sitting at home and get stuff done slowly...

Thanks! Would it be too difficult to learn how to work on them. Maybe I can attend some sort of class or something.
