Temp light inoperative

I tried replacing the bulb and resplicing the connector with a new clip but to no avail. I'm picking up a new sensor later today. Let's say that doesn't fix it - what would my next step be? I also ordered an electric Water Temp gauge. Would that just replace the original sending unit in the block or is there another place to put it and retain the light (assuming the new sender I'm getting will make the light work)? Thanks. It's for a '79 - 305".

RE: Temp light inoperative

Well, how do you know it's "not" working? I mean you have to overheat the engine (or get it close) for it to come on. Do you have a temp gauge or just an "idiot" light? I'll assume and idiot light since you're ordering an electric gauge. If the new gauge is worth anything it should have a brass sleeve adapter for the temp sensor or you should be able to hook up the new connector to the old temp sender if it's working within the same electrical tolerances.

Hope that helps.

RE: Temp light inoperative

Thanks for your reply. By "not working," I mean when you turn the key to the ON position, it does not light up (like the OP and amp idiot lights do). I bought a new sensor but didn't get a chance to hook it up. I am getting the Auto meter gauge tomorrow and if the sending unit will fit where the old sensor is, I'll just replace it for now. I'm going to an event next week and don't want to run without anything. One other thing, I grounded the green wire and turned the key to on - should the light have gone on then?

In addition, would these unattached connectors (they don't fit into each other) have anything to do with my problem or are they for something not applicable on my car?
