Talking Tag says "Z27 LS3", how rare?

Hi,
New to this forum and new as owner of a Camaro.

Yesterday I bought my Camaro, it was a 1971 I found in the ads on intenet here in Sweden.

I realize that this car might be quite rare as it seems to be one of the 1533 1971 Camaros with the SS package along with the LS3 "396" from the factory.

It has been modied by new paint but the body is untouched and totally free from rust.

It has a history of being standing unused for years as a result of lacking the title when the guy who imported the car tried to register it here in Sweden.

The paind and the interior was one in the 1980´s but tha car stood till the year of 2006 when another guy finally made it possible to drive it legal with a licence plate.

The engine is now a 1972 402 wich is quite hot and pumps out over 490 crank HP´s.
It´s still freshly rebuilt and I have not really pushed it, just waiting for the running in to be done.

I will shure be back for more questions and hopefully with pictures too...

Hey Vall (1971BB427) maybe you want to chime in here don't you have an SS too? Shouldn't they have a 12 bolt rear to?

But I would think they are pretty rare to find an original Z27 (SS) package with the original optioned 396ci LS3. but you said it's not the original engine so i guess that wouldn't be to rare to see. And in 71 there was a total of 8377 SS's produced but thats still not many. I doubt if you would ever find an ALL original and if there is one it's prob not for sale or you have to cut off your arm for lol.

But congrats on the buy and welcome aboard

Joe

No Joe, the 1970 was the last year Chevy offered a 12 bolt rearend on the SS396 Camaros. 1971 and newer got a 10 bolt 8.5" rear. As for numbers I think you're both correct. only 1533 of the SS 396 Camaros were built in 1971, but a total of 8377 SS Camaros were built with either 350 or 396 engines.
The 1971 SS396 is an extremely rare car, and although it would be better if it was the original engine, it's VIN number still makes it a 396, and one year later engine wont hurt the value tremendously. Mine's probably way less value with a totally different engine size, and year.

Is this an original engine or not? How much of the car was modified to handle the 500 hp? As a general rule these cars need a fair amount of work to handle 500 hp well and all the work hurts the value of an original car. If the car has been heavily modified then it used to be a rare car now it one of the most common.

Seriously the range the car could be worth is huge here depending on condition. An all original 71 SS 396 near "100" car could be worth 50k. (A "100" car just exited the assembly line door in 1971) A "street rod" done top of the line by an unknown builder could be worth 30k. A street rod done on a budget could be worth 20k.
No way can we give a value on a car on the other side of the world. You want US value in US money? For it to be worth much here it would need an original title.

Default Z27 ls3

I'm a new user. I do have a z27 ls3 car with the original motor 4 speed. Which to the best of my knowledge this is a 402 big block which the engine codes confirm. Just looking for someone with more knowledge in this area. Cars not cut up. Some mods engine bay only. Trying to figure out website if i could send pics i would. Thanks and appreciate your help.

My bad, I did not look at the dates on the post, you hijacked someone post. Make your own.

LS3 is a 396

I use photobucket.com and cut and paste the image code into the posts.

Just search for 1971 SS 396 for sales on google. Read the description and subtract about 10% off the asking price. Condition is everything. 71 Camaros are not rare,396 clones are not rare so any missing original 396 parts will hurt the value.
