Default t5 transmission ?

I have a 88 camaro and a 78 camaro. I plan on swapping in the t5 from the 88 into the 78 and have few questions. My 78 camaro has a 327 small block. Ok will the flywheel bolt up to the 327? Is there a company that makes a crossmember that bolts up to t5 and 2nd gen chassis? Where can i get a driveshaft or is there one that fits right in? can i use the clutch pedal from the 88 camaro? Is the stock shifter fine or does it sit to low or too far back or too forward? I pretty sure someone has done this so if there is a write up on it that answers all my questions please provide a link. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and do all my own work on my cars but have not really worked on GM cars too much. Thanks any info helps

Where did the 327 come from? I don't think they made it after 69, but it will be internally balanced, 2 piece main, and your flywheel will have a 3.58" bolt pattern. I assume it is the stock smallblock in the 88? It would be externally balanced (meaning there would be weights on this flywheel that would cause balance issues on an internal balanced engine), 1 piece main, the flywheel should have a 3" bolt pattern. So no, the flywheel will not fit, either use a newer engine or get a new flywheel for the 327. As for the pedal, clutch pedal assemblies for these 2nd gens are easy to find, i've even seen repro assemblies. It will probably be easier to get the right pedal and modify the linkage to fit. The newer pedal assembly will probably take more work to fit. As for the rest of your questions, I'll figure out whenever I get around to fitting my T-56 in a 75. You'll probably have to find a driveline shop to make a driveshaft (save both of them, they'll need the yokes to save you $$) I plan on making a tube steel crossmember, but you could probably modify the one from the 88 to fit

Thanks for the response. I believe the 327 came out a 69 camaro. OK so the 327 is internally balance there for need a flywheel without balancing weights. Hmmm this would be easier for me to figure out if i had the trans and engine out. For some reason thought the swap would be pretty straight forward guess it's more entailed. What flywheel could i use that will work with the t5 trans and clutch? I knew crossmember, driveshaft, and clutch pedal assembly would require fabriction but still very curious on shifter location. The only reason considering to do this setup is because i have a 327 a t5 and a 78 camaro. Figured it make for a fun ride aswell with five gears as long as i matched the t5 with proper rear end ratio. input is welcome new to this all so well see what i build.

I agree, this will be a fun swap. I know similar ones have been done, but there is no set step by step script that I have found. Any small block flywheel for an internally balanced motor should have the 3" bolt pattern and will fit your 327. Some "light-weight" flywheels have a friction surface for a specific size clutch (11", 12", etc) but many of them have a large friction surface that will fit a range of clutch sizes (resurface it if it's used). basically, you have 2 major things to look for: the splines in the center of the clutch plate must match the transmission input shaft, and the pressure plate bolt pattern must match the flywheel threaded holes. This requires some research, but when I did a swap of similar complexity in a 79 F150, I just sweet-talked the local parts store guy into leaving me alone for a couple hours in the clutch isle in back, and I found what fit. Shifter location is easy to account for with a hole in the center hump, the biggest problem I worry about is lining up with a console. I figure I'll get mine in there, then see where the console fits to find out if i can use the stock console or have to make a custom one. I think the crossmember just has to move back a couple inches, aside from a custom crossmember, you can drill new bolt holes in the frame to relocate the original, or weld angle to the frame mount ends to extend the mounting surface and match original bolt holes.
